October Update – Beaver Builder 1.6.4 has Dropped

What’s scarier than a Visual Composer security breach—It’s our October/Halloween Update! Boo!

If you’ve been following along, you may have noticed that I missed my update post last month. I am sorry! I was slaving away in Cabo. It’s tough work, but someone’s got to do it, right? If you missed it, find out what happens when 10 WordPress geeks hit the streets of Downtown Cabo in our CaboPress recap.

Today is exciting. We’ve got a software update and news update on the same day. Before we get into the update and business news, though, I have some personal news to share…

We’re Moving

I am both excited and saddened to announce that FastLine Media and Beaver Builder are moving! For the last several years, all three of the core team (Billy, Justin, and myself) have been sharing an office here in lovely Campbell, CA. Well, with growing families, the decision has been made to leave the overly-saturated Bay Area for greener pastures.

Luckily, we already have some WordPress friends in our new home. We were lucky enough to get to know Brian and Jennifer Bourn from Bourn Creative at CaboPress.

They’re quite active in the Northern California WordPress scene. As a matter of fact, they’re organizers of the first-ever WordCamp Sacramento which I will be attending. Will you be there? If so, be sure to come by and say hello!

Beaver Builder 1.6.4

With hindsight, it might have been appropriate to call this update version 2.0. We’re packing in so many new features, that it almost demands a new major version. Almost..

Justin wrote up a really thorough overview of the new features on this blog post, so I won’t spend too much time on them. Quickly, though, here are a few of my favorites:

New Column Editing UI

This has been a much requested feature and we’re thrilled to announce it’s here. You now have the ability to insert columns into an existing row with our band new column UI.

Draggable Resizable Columns

This one speaks for itself…

New Module

We have a new module coming out today too: the animated number module! There’s all sorts of use cases for this module, and the animation effects are really cool.beaver-builder-number-counter-3 beaver-builder-number-counter-1

Full Height Rows

What’s a full height row? It’s a row that fills the entire browser window regardless of the screen size. This is a very powerful technique that’s used all the time on landing pages. As of now, this technique is easily doable with Beaver Builder!

You can see a full-height row in action on our buddy Jonathan’s site, SureFire Designs.

Heading Fonts in The Builder

Up until now, you couldn’t change fonts from the page builder. Fonts could only be set by your site’s theme. We decided that the one module that could use a custom font selector would be the heading module—so we added it!

You can now select Google or System fonts straight from the heading module!

Again, there’s a lot more described in Justin’s post. Go check it out.

slack-2014

Beaver Builder Slack

We’re really big on community. One of the most rewarding things about starting Beaver Builder has been getting to know all of you. On that note, we have a fairly active Facebook group page called Beaver Builders.

Today, we’re announcing a new hangout: the Beaver Builders Slack Channel! The Slack channel and Facebook group both share the same premise: a place to meet other Beaver Builder users, ask questions, network, and just chat!

If you’ve never used Slack before, it’s a really nifty chat program. It’s being adopted like wildfire—particularly in the WordPress industry—and if for no other reason, it’s worth signing up just to toy around with Slack.

It’s more fun when you’re part of a group! Come on by and say hello on Facebook or on Slack!

Beaver Builder Jobs Page

Looking for a WordPress job? Beaver Builder is hiring. https://www.wpbeaverbuilder.com/jobs/ Click To Tweet

It’s official. We’re hiring. Check out our new Jobs page for more details!

Specifically, we’re looking for developers, visual designers, and support reps on a contract basis. We’re a young company, and we can offer an opportunity to have a major influence on Beaver Builder. This is a ground-floor opportunity at a fun and rapidly growing company! If you, or anyone you know, might be a good fit please have them get in touch.

Until Next Time

I may be shooting myself in the foot here. After all, I have been struggling to consistently write up one monthly update =O.

Well maybe public accountability might help. So here it is, I’m making the claim that we will start pushing out two update posts a month! Whoa!

If that catches your interest, you may want to sign up for our newsletter. We’ll send you an occasional email with news, tips, and updates!

Normally, at the end of a post, we ask you to do a little homework. Generally, it’s to leave a comment. Today’s home work is a bit different. There’s 2 items:

  1. Join Us on the Beaver Builders Facebook Group
  2. Join us in the Beaver Builder Slack Channel

Until next time. Thanks! 🙂

It would be totally gnaw-some if you could share this post with your friends.

    Hey Robby,

Man, you guys have so much going on!

Moving can be a little tough, but it also gives you a chance to look at things from a different place and perspective. If you think about where the three of you were a year ago (you’ve come a long, long way), it’s probably a good time to move. Wish I was close enough to help!

I’ve been playing with the beta quite a lot and have been looking forward to the full release, so I can put it out there on some client sites. I know they are going to love the new features. From a design point of view, my favorite new feature is the ability to save colors in the color picker. I can now pre-load Beaver Builder with the color palette I’m using for the site. A huge time saver!

From an interface point of view, I really like the full height row feature and the new column width handles. The animated number module will come in handy for many things and adds a little bit of a wow! factor.

You were the one who introduced me to Slack and I have to say I love it. The new Beaver Builder Slack channel is a cool place to chat with others about everything from beginners to sharing resources. There are a lot of familiar faces there already and along with the awesome Facebook Group, it’s going to be another one of my favorite places to hang out.

Love the way you guys keep things smooth and exciting while all the big stuff is going on around you!

    Will talk soon my friend:-)

    Cheers,

    Colin

P.S. Love the heading graphic – Go Groucho Beaver!

Hey Colin! Thanks so much for the kind words and the support.

The actual move is going to be crazy! Justin and Billy will probably be just finishing up with that when we all get together in Philly. Actually, shoot, I should have mentioned Philly in the blog post. Oh well, haha.

The Slack channel is great, right? It’s really exciting to see it filling out with people now. 🙂

  2. Jay on October 13, 2015 at 6:51 pm

Anyone? Hello? Anyone else seeing what I’m seeing? I must be crazy. Anyone else see how flipping amazing this patch is?!

Well done guys. Can’t recommend you enough! The products aren’t just amazing – but your personalities and support too. *buys virtual beers*

Love the opening line… hopefully everyone drops VC for BB. They would be crazy not to. Keep up the good work guys. I’m not even more upset I didn’t go to Cabo because it would have been a great opportunity to meet you guys. Really love what you’re doing. Keep it up!

    • Robby McCullough on October 14, 2015 at 9:51 am

Next year for Cabo! You won’t regret it!

  4. David Waumsley on October 13, 2015 at 9:26 pm

Nice one Robby. Good luck with the move and my homework is already done already sir.

Hey, talking of shooting yourself in the foot what happened to the “10 things you didn’t know about Beaver Builder” post? Ha ha …Impossible right, with such ardent fans!

Ah Slack, one day I’ll actually be online when the conversations are going on.

    • Robby McCullough on October 14, 2015 at 9:55 am

      You’re a good student, David! 🙂

The post is coming, I swear! It’s dormant at the moment, but I will revive it, ha!

      • David Waumsley on October 14, 2015 at 1:10 pm

My pencil will be sharpened and ready to take notes! And darn, is there any chance of catching your guys out – just once 🙂

          Haha! We’ll see, David! We’ll see. 🙂

  5. Athlone on October 13, 2015 at 10:43 pm

Awesome features! The full height row and re-sizable columns are going to be popular. All the best with the move and may your new home see you grow from strength to strength.

      Thanks Athlone! Much appreciated.

    • Robby McCullough on October 14, 2015 at 10:04 am

Debbie, that’s great! Thanks for sharing. I’ve heard that sentiment from several people now and it’s SO rewarding to hear. Oh, and welcome to the family, too! 🙂

    • Robby McCullough on October 14, 2015 at 10:08 am

Hehe, I’m blushing 😉 The feeling is mutual, Frédérique!

  8. Tyler Meador on October 14, 2015 at 7:39 am

I’ve been following this release for a couple of weeks now. For the last week I’ve been checking everyday to see when 1.6.4 would be released. Where can we get the stable build? I’m not showing an update available in WP. (I was under the impression the stable was released yesterday? 10/13)

    • Robby McCullough on October 14, 2015 at 10:11 am

Hey Tyler! 1.6.4 is out and it should be available as an update in your dashboard.

We’ve noticed sometimes the WordPress update system can be a bit wonky and it won’t show an available update. You can try refreshing the update page a few times, or manually checking for updates.

If neither of those work, you can always manually replace the plugin files via FTP. Dont’ worry, nothing will break if you deactivate the old plugin, remove it, then upload the new one. The update should come down the pipe eventually, though. 🙂

  9. TylerMeador on October 14, 2015 at 7:58 am

Will there be a free version of 1.6.4? If so, how can I obtain it? There’s no update available in WP?

    • Jonathan Wilson on October 14, 2015 at 9:31 am

Hey Tyler, Justin and Robby responded to you in the Slack channel, but I wanted to post here as well so others can see.

Robby said, “Almost all of the features from 1.6.4 will be available in the free version.”
Justin said, “Depending on how busy it is this week, it may be next week, but it will be (coming) soon”.

  10. Viktor Nagornyy (@V1ktor) on October 14, 2015 at 1:57 pm

Sweet mother! Thanks guys, this is awesome.

    • Robby McCullough on October 14, 2015 at 2:04 pm

      Thank you for commenting, Viktor!

  11. catefergonlineFerguson on October 14, 2015 at 3:05 pm

I’m very new to the world of Beaver Builder having just redone (well… almost) my own site and am about to start a new client site with it, in the next week. ADJUSTABLE COLUMNS I love this so much you have no idea! I’m now going into a learning curve like no other to pull out as many gems as I can find. Thanks treasures. Love from Oz

    • Robby McCullough on October 26, 2015 at 9:28 am

Glad you like the new features! We have more on the way, too! 🙂

  12. mswykyd on October 14, 2015 at 3:11 pm

I tried BB a while ago and was too frustrated to keep it. I’ve since learned a lot and it looks like you’ve made some improvements. I may have to give it a try again… Good work, guys!

    • David Waumsley on October 14, 2015 at 10:08 pm

Hi Mswykyd, I’d love to know what frustrated you. For me, BB was love at first sight (or maybe site).

The reason why I’m interested is I’m now trying to judge the extent to which I can empower clients with BB. It’s not easy for me to get in the shoes of someone who it does not fit so well with, but I must.

      • mswykyd on October 15, 2015 at 7:30 am

I wish I could remember! If I could, I would then be able to truly determine if I should sign up again. I’ve got a lifetime access account to another similar builder but it has some limitations that it appears BB would resolve (the new ability to change the row width, for one – I wonder about height? I’ll have to read more when I have time) I’ve even gone back through my email trying to find it. I just recall being so frustrated because I found something terribly difficult and that it simply wouldn’t do a few things that another system would. But I will say I had just switched from Joomla to WP and was completely lost anyway. Within the past 6 months my business has completely taken off due at least in part, to my switch to WP. I’m SO glad I made the move! Now it seems like I’m on an endless search for a builder that would be easily managed by my clients and one that keeps the code fairly clean – at the same time! 🙂

        • Robby McCullough on October 15, 2015 at 6:35 pm

Hmm. I hope you find what you’re looking for! If you ever want to make the switch to Beaver Builder, you know where to find us, haha. 🙂

  13. Jeffrey on October 14, 2015 at 3:15 pm

So far you guys have come out with updates on things I was needing/hoping for before I could ask for them. This is one of the absolute best purchases I’ve made for wordpress. Any way you guys could add a feature to duplicate a page on mutli-site from one site to another? That would be awesome!

    • Robby McCullough on October 26, 2015 at 9:30 am

Haha! That’s great to hear, Jeffrey! Feel free to add that to our User Voice page as a feature request. Currently, you should be able to that by saving then export/importing templates.

  14. Adelino on October 14, 2015 at 11:43 pm

    Hi guys,

Thanks for your amazing work !

These last updates are very useful 🙂

If you need a french / portuguese translator, you’ ve got my email 😉

    Adelino.

    • Robby McCullough on October 26, 2015 at 9:32 am

Thanks, Adelino! Good to know. 🙂

  15. Pavel on October 15, 2015 at 12:22 am

Hi guys, I’d like to join the others in being amazed and thankful for the plugin and the update. I would be even happier if I could use the columns within a column functionality. I believe it is a long time no. 1 hit on the user suggested feature list. I would appreciate it more than anything.

    Thanks,
    Pavel.

    • Robby McCullough on October 15, 2015 at 6:34 pm

Thanks Pavel! That one is a real toughie, but it’s always in the back of our minds. 🙂

  16. martin on October 15, 2015 at 1:46 am

Holy %&@! I love you. Just updated and this is extremely nice!

    • Robby McCullough on October 15, 2015 at 6:34 pm

Haha, thanks Martin! Glad you’re liking it!

  17. Jean Daniel on October 26, 2015 at 8:06 am

Thanks very much for the fantastic update. I would like to know you can do the same design as on the surefire website within only beaver builder. What I would like to know is about the top menu with transparent background that stick to the top when you go down.

  18. Morten on November 17, 2015 at 3:45 am

    Hi,
I am very excited about Beaver Builder. Are there any news on adding columns in exciting columns. For instance adding a 3 colums row in the content column. That would make BB perfect!

    • Robby McCullough on November 17, 2015 at 8:14 am

Hi Morten! Thanks for the comment. No news unfortunately. We’re still trying to figure out a “nice” way to make this happen. That is, we don’t want to over complicate the page builder UI and the auto-generated markup. If we can figure out an efficient/user friendly way to do it, we will. Otherwise, we’ll probably hold off on this feature.

  19. SilverPorl on January 21, 2016 at 8:30 am

Hey Robby, I’ve been using BB for about half a year now but I am just doing my first project using the full-height row module. So I’ve taken a look at the SureFire Design example but analyzing their source code I cannot find any of the usual nested “fl-” classes that BB generates? So it looks like they are not using BB to achieve their full-height one pager anymore? Which is a shame because I wanted to get some inspiration from them. Maybe you could update the article and link to another great real-world example of this new feature. That would be awesome. Keep up the great work and many thanks.

    • Robby McCullough on January 21, 2016 at 9:33 am

Huh! Sure enough. Thanks for the heads up. I will keep an eye peeled for another example of the full-height rows “in the wild.” 🙂

We’re using one on the FastLine Media website redesign. That should be out soon, so if I don’t find one sooner I’ll update it with that one.

      Thanks again for the comment!
